 | Lectors
The ministry of a lector is a wonderful work.
Through the lectors, God's living Word continues to be proclaimed to His
people.
The lector proclaims the first reading, the
responsorial psalm, and the second reading from the ambo. If a
deacon is not present, the lector also reads the prayer of the faithful
and the any announcements after Mass.
There is a period of training for interested persons.
One is usually assigned to a Mass once or twice a month. One must
also be willing to prepare before each Mass as well as have some
knowledge of the Bible. |

 | Extraordinary Minister of Holy
Communion
The Eucharist is the center of our catholic belief.
During the consecration of the Mass, by the words spoken by the priest,
bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood, Soul and
Divinity of our Lord. With all His power and greatness, Our Lord
comes to us when we receive Holy Communion. The Consecrated Hosts
are placed in the Tabernacle, where Our Lord waits for us to come and be
with Him.
As a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion you have the responsibility of bringing Christ
to others. It is important that the Extraordinary Minister of Holy
Communion
distribute communion in such a way that the one receiving this precious
gift can readily feel and respond to Christ's presence.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion are needed to distribute
communion at Sunday Masses and to those at home of in the hospital.
Following an interview, training is provided. |

 | Welcoming Ministry
The purpose of the Welcoming Ministry is to
welcome new parishioners to our community. As new parishioners
register in the parish, their names and phone numbers would be given to
the welcome ministers, who would then contact the new parishioners and
welcome them to the parish. Welcome ministers would provide
information about what goes on in the parish. They would also
introduce the new parishioners to parishioners already in the parish by
hosting a fellowship hour after one of the Masses. As the ministry
grows, other ways of providing service and hospitality will present
themselves. |

 | The Rosary Society
The purpose of the Rosary Society is to promote
devotion to Our Blessed Mother and the Holy Rosary through prayer,
charitable works and fellowship.
This society has been very active and long standing
here at Holy Name. Through fund raising activities, the Rosary
Society provides monetary gifts to our Church and School. At
Christmas time, a donation is also made to the St. Vincent DePaul
Society. Financial support, baby clothes and bottles are also
donated to Angel Guardian Home for single mothers in need.
Some of our activities include: Autumn Auction,
Baby Shower for Angel Guardian, Christmas Party, Participation in May
Crowning of the Blessed Mother, and the Communion Breakfast in June.
The amount of service time you donate depends on your
schedule. Spiritual members are asked to a) pray 15 decades of the
Rosary each week, and b) attend the 10:30 Mass on the first Sunday of
each month. Following the Mass there is a monthly meeting to plan
upcoming fund raising and charitable works. |

 | Cancer Guild
Jesus instructed the Apostles the second
greatest commandment, Love our neighbor as ourselves. At the Last
Supper, He demonstrated His love in part by washing the Apostles' feet,
imploring us to wash each other's feet. That is to serve others.

support to those who care for those who are ill. This group meets
every Thursday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 in the Rectory basement to make
bed pads for hospices. Started in 1946, the Cancer Guild has a
long tradition of loving God through their generosity of time, talent
and labor.

We have two Charismatic Prayer Groups.
The Spanish Prayer Group meets every Friday evening in the Rectory
Basement. The English Prayer Group meets every Thursday evening in
the Brother's House Chapel. Both groups meet at 7:30 P.M.
Prayer can take many forms. Offering praise to the
Lord, sharing each other's unique gifts, raising voices in song, reading
and meditating over the Scripture readings, offering prayer of petition
and intercession, and sharing with one another how God is alive and
working in our lives.
Another purpose of the Group is to go into the world and
bring Jesus to everyone. As part of this goal, the prayer groups
sponsor Life In The Spirit seminars and Healing Masses. |

 | Respect Life Committee
This committee is dedicated to promoting
the value of all life, from the moment of conception through the entire
life span.
Life is a very precious gift and we are living in a
society, in a world that promotes and exists with so many attacks
against this precious gift of Our Father. People, our most
important resource, are dying unnecessarily through abortion,
euthanasia, domestic and street violence. We believe that every
person is a child of God, and as a child of God they have equal value
and the right to life.
The work of the Respect Life Committee thus far has
focused more on issues of those who are the most innocent of victims,
the unborn infants, but remains on all issues that threatens life.
Over the years, this committee has 1) organizes Holy Name's
participation in the
March for Life
every January 22nd. 2) plans the Mass for Respect Life Sunday
every October. 3) submits notices for the weekly bulletin.
4) writes petitions for the Prayers of the Faithful every two weeks, and
5) when members availability permits, alerts the parishioners of
upcoming legislation. |
